Born from Snow, Rice, and Sake

As the first whisky distillery to represent the prefecture of Niigata, Japan, Shinobu stands a testament to the artistry and pioneering spirit of its founder, Ken Usami. Known first for founding Niigata Beer Company, Usami dreamt of crafting a local whisky that reflected the rare natural wonders that Niigata has to offer, most notably its “three white treasures” - snow, rice, and sake. Niigata’s mountainous altitude and snowfall bless the region with an incredibly pure water source, combining with its indigenous rice grains and sake distilling techniques to create a new realm of whisky unique to the Niigatan landscape and culture.

Inheritance of the Samurai Spirits

“Shinobu,” translating to “forbearance” in Japanese, alchemizes the ethos of the Samurai spirit into whisky form, reflecting the dedication, patience, and unwavering persistence required to pursue excellence in one’s craft. From the meticulous sourcing of local ingredients to its aging process in rare Mizunara Oak native only to Japan, Shinobu whisky tells a story of its homeland - paying homage to Japanese tradition while pushing the boundaries of innovation in craft spirits.
